Brothers who have recently passed.
We will always remember these men, and with them we
shall forever be friends, from the heart.
William Jaubert "Bill" Dugan W. J. "Bill" Dugan died Monday, March 13, 2006, at the Bogalusa Medical center at the age of 88. Brother Dugan was a native of New Orleans and a graduate of Fortier High School and Louisiana State University, where he was initiated into Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity on February 12, 1939. Bill was a WW II veteran serving in the U. S. Army Air Corps in the European Theatre. He was founder captain for Trans World Airlines, chief pilot for J Ray McDermott, founder and CEO of General Aviation Corporation in New Orleans and a longtime member of the 'Tally Ho' Club and 'QBs.' He was a resident of Slidell, LA since1960. Brother Dugan is survived by his sons, William J. Dugan, Jr., Patrick S. Dugan and Dale O. Dugan; one daughter, Deborah D. Bowie; sister, Dottie Dugan Jackson; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean O'Connell Dugan, and his parents, John V. and Laura J. Dugan. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 18, 2006, at Honaker Funeral Home, Slidell, LA. Entombment followed at Forest Lawn Mausoleum. Donations to Hurricane Katrina Relief funds are preferred in lieu of flowers.
Stephen Plauche' Dart (Tau
Lamda '42, ZZ '51)
Stephen Plauche' Dart died at his home in St. Francisville on Friday, July 8
2005, surrounded by his family. He graduated from Tulane University in the
Navy ROTC accelerated program in 1942 and served as a lieutenant junior
grade aboard the USS Oberon in the European and Pacific theaters in WW II.
Discharged after V-J Day, he entered LSU and received degrees in law and
electrical engineering. He was a fellow of the American Bar Association.
Upon his admittance to the Louisiana Bar in February 1951, he practiced in
the New Orleans firm begun by his grandfather, Henry P. Dart. In 1953, he
moved to St. Francisville, where he practiced law with his father-in-law,
James H. Kilbourne, in the firm of Kilbourne & Dart, which continues today.
He served as town attorney and as director of civil defense and was an
organizer of the St. Francisville Volunteer Fire Department. He was a
member of Grace Episcopal Church in St. Francisville, where he served as
vestryman, warden, lay-reader and chorister. At the time of his death, he
was chancellor emeritus of Grace Church and had served as vice chancellor of
the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana. He was a member of the Boston Club of
New Orleans and was formerly a member of the Pickwick Club, various carnival
organizations and the City Club of Baton Rouge. He was an alumnus of both
the Tau Lambda and Zeta Zeta chapters of Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.
He
was a licensed pilot (instructor rating) as well as an amateur radio
operator for more than 60 years. He is survived by his wife of 54 years,
the former Eisabeth Kilbourne; son, James K. Dart of New York City; daughter
Ann H. Dart and her husband, Ralph H. Beaumont III, M.D., of Portland,
Oregon; granddaughter, Clara D. Beaumont; and sister, Jane D. Maunsell and
her husband, E. Stewart Maunsell II. He was preceded in death by his
parents, Benjamin W. Dart and Clarabel C. Dart; and a brother, Benjamin W.
Dart Jr. Visitation at Grace Episcopal Church, St. Francisville, on
Tuesday
July 12, from 10 a.m. until service at 10:30 a.m.
Burial in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may

John Edward Kyle, Jr. (ZZ '36)
The well respected John Edward Kyle
passed away peacefully at 4:00 PM
Saturday, June 25, 2005, at his home in Morgan City. Memorial service will
be held at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium at 1:00 PM Thursday, June 30
followed by a reception. Kyle's remains were cremated and burial service
will be held Saturday, July 2, in New Iberia. The Rev. Roy Mellish, pastor
of Trinity Episcopal Church will deliver the memorial service to be followed
by the reception to honor Ed's life and many accomplishments. He is
survived by a sister, Barbara Kyle of New Iberia; eight nieces and nephews;
and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by
two
sisters, Virginia Kyle Hine and Katherine McKerral Kyle. In lieu of
flowers

P. O. Box 9733, New Iberia, LA 70562. Kyle was born Oct. 19, 1917, in New
Iberia to Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Kyle, Sr. He attended public schools in
Iberia
Parish, graduating from high school in 1934. From 1935 to 1941, he
attended
Sewanee Military Academy, Tulane University and LSU." He was initiated
into
Zeta Zeta chapter of DKE on March 8, 1936, along with Russell B. Long. " In
1941, he joined the U. S. Navy, serving with distinction as a naval officer
in the Pacific Theater, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious
service. He was a pioneer in the offshore oil field business from 1946 to
1963 and was manager of the family-owned Drilling Mud Co. in Berwick, La
from its founding. In 1955, he co-founded and served as the first chairman
and CEO of Tidewater Marine, which designed and built the first oil field
supply boat in its classic configuration. The basic design is still in use
almost 50 years later."
Kevin Martin Viguerie (ZZ '71)
Kevin Martin Viguerie (ZZ 71'), vice
president of Seeman Fiberglass Co.,
died Monday, May 30, 2005, of cancer at East Jefferson General Hospital in
Metairie, LA. He was 57. Brother Viguerie was born in New Orleans and
lived in Metairie, and Pearlington and Crossroads, MS. He was a graduate of
Canterberry Preparatory School and attended Pearl River Junior College and
Louisiana State University, where he was initiated into the Zeta Zeta
chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He was a medic in the U. S. Army
Reserve. An avid outdoorsman, Viguerie was a member of the Wild Turkey
Federation, Ducks Unlimited and the Pearl River Rod and Gun Club. He is
survived by a brother, Peter Viguerie and a sister, Winifred "Winx" V.
McCarthy. A memorial service was held at 10:30 AM at Lake Lawn Metairie
Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Cemetery
John L. "Jack" Avant, Sr. (ZZ '47)
John L. "Jack" Avant, Sr. (ZZ 47'), retired Baton Rouge attorney, died
Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at age 78. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a
native of Baton Rouge and a resident of Pride, LA. Visitation will be at
Greenoaks Funeral Home on Friday, June 3, from 5:00 PM till 9:00 PM and
continue on Saturday, June 4, from noon until services at 2:00 PM in the
Greenoaks Chapel. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Brother Avant was
initiated into Zeta Zeta of Delta Kappa Epsilon on January 16, 1944. He
graduated first in his class at LSU Law School in 1949, and was awarded the
Order of the Coif. He was a member of the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi,
Louisiana Trial Lawyers Assoc., American Trial Lawyers Assoc. and
International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He served as a delegate to the
Louisiana Constitutional Convention in 1973 and was inducted to the
Louisiana AFL-CIO Hall of Fame in 2004. Avant spent more than 35 years as
general counsel for the Louisiana AFL-CIO. He was considered by his
contemporaries as one of the top ten trial lawyers in the state when he was
litigating cases. Avant is survived by two daughters, Penny Green and Diana
Cobb, and sons John L. Avant, Jr. and Daniel L. Avant, numerous
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife
Genevieve Rhorer Avant; parents James A. Avant and Jessie Dean Martin; a
brother, Dr. James A. Avant; a sister, Ruth Avant Beard; and grandson,
Daniel Benjamin Avant.
James D. Prescott, Sr. (ZZ '48)
James Dejean Prescott a well known
educator and longtime Baton Rouge
resident died Saturday, May 7, 2005, at Ollie Steele Burden Manor.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 11, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2021
Stuart Ave., Baton Rouge from 9 am until religious services at 11 am.
Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Brother Prescott was born September
28, 1926, in Opelousas, LA, the son of Lucille and Willis B. Prescott. He
was a graduate of Opelousas High School in 1943. Prescott earned his BS in
1943, and MA in 1949, from LSU, both in education. He completed all of his
doctoral requirements in education except for completion of his dissertation
He was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity and served in the U.S.
Navy in the Pacific theatre during WW II. He taught at Baton Rouge junior
and senior high schools and served as an instructor at LSU. He was then a
teacher and assistant principal at University Lab School. While at LSU he
served as assistant to the director of educational studies for the La.
Commission on Higher Education. Later he became assistant high school
supervisor and supervisor for research for East Baton Rouge Parish schools.
In 1961, he was appointed executive director of the La. School Boards Assoc.
which he served for 25 years. He was a well respected advocate of public
education and served as a member of the Education Commission of the States
for 12 years. Prescott received numerous awards for his service to
education. Brother Prescott is the uncle of James Michael Roy, ZZ '73.

Clegg Caffery (ZZ '38) "Clegg "Doc" Caffery, 90, a lifelong resident of Franklin, died Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at 1:07 A.M. at Franklin Foundation Hospital. Mr. Caffery is survived by his son, Clegg Caffery, Jr. and wife Andrea, of Franklin; daughter, Margaret Boyd Caffery of Sebastopol, CA; son-in-law, Michael Garff of Bethel, CT; brother, Don T. Caffery, Sr. of Franklin; sister, Lydia Caffery Hilliard of Houston; eight grandchildren, Joshua Caffery, Ruth Caffery, Brennan Caffery, Caffery Garff, Malachi Garff, Cooper Garff, Gabriel Phillips and Noah Phillips; great-granddaughter, Isabelle Blake Mahfouz; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Boyd West Caffery; daughter Ann Caffery Garff; brother, John M. Caffery, Jr.; sister, Mary Caffery Jones; father, John M. Caffery; and mother, Mary Frere Caffery. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at Ibert's Mortuary in Franklin. Visiting at the Caffery House, 15434 La. 182 West, Franklin, from 11 a.m. Saturday until a memorial service at 1 p.m. officiated by the Rev. Bobby Hodnett.
Mr. Caffery
received a bachelor of science degree in agronomy and an ROTC commission from LSU in 1938. With one year of active duty in the Army at Fort Sam Houston, he returned to LSU for graduate work. On Aug. 10, 1940, he again entered the Army and reported to Fort Benning, Ga. He was assigned to the 2nd Battallion, 11th Armored Regiment. On Sept. 23, 1943, he was assigned to the 712th Tank Battallion and became the S-3 officer. Later in France, he became the battallion executive officer and was attached to the 90th Infantry Division in the hedgerows of Normandy. The following days, weeks and months made history, as the division became one of Gen. Patton's famed Third Army divisions. After the war, he returned to Louisiana and resumed his life on the sugarcane farm and factory that he left years before He served for many years on the St. Mary Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors. He was a former president of the St. Mary Parish Landmark Society when the Grevemberg House was rebuilt. He was instrumental in the construction of the Belleview Golf and Country Club and was its first president. He served on the Commercial Bank Board of Directors and served as chairman of Franklin Foundation Hospital. He also owned and operated the shrimp boat "Buttercup."
